Learning Outcomes: Students will examine the basis for legal liability, analyze commercial liability loss exposures, and become familiar with using commercial liability risk control and valuation of liability claims. Students will gain an understanding of CGL coverage, classifying general liability accounts, commercial general liability premium bases, underwriting premises and operations liability, products liability, and underwriting products and completed operations liability. Students will gain an understanding of commercial auto insurance, business auto underwriting considerations for liability and physical damage coverages, and underwriting commercial autos using telematics. Students will learn about workers compensation insurance, key workers compensation underwriting considerations, analysis of workers compensation exposures, the Basic Manual for Workers Compensation and Employers Liability Insurance, rating workers compensation insurance, and underwriting workers compensation using telematics. Students will learn to analyze professional liability loss exposures, about professional liability insurance, to evaluate key liability considerations for healthcare professionals, accountants, lawyers, insurance producers, architects, and engineers. Students will become familiarized with excess and umbrella liability insurance, its characteristics, and how to underwrite it. Students will learn how to identify loss exposures for large accounts; what information is needed to analyze large-account loss experience; and the purpose of retrospective rating plans, large deductible plans, self-insurance plans, and captive insurance plans.
