The course objective is to describe the American legal system in general and as it applies in particular to employment-related issues; explain fundamental rules of law related to employment relationships, particularly discrimination law, labor law, contract law, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and the principle of respondeat superior; appreciate the extent to which legal requirements affect employment relationships and decision making in the nonprofit sector; and enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills by applying principles of law to diverse employment situations in weekly web and chat room discussions and on examinations.
