Description

Objective:

The course objective is to develop mastery of math concepts and operations using guided, assessment-based study in the ALEKS system. Following an initial assessment, students are given the choice of topics for active study based on individual current readiness; as progress is made, the selection of topics evolves according to developing readiness. Interactive feedback, step-by-step explanations, and hyperlinked dictionary definitions support active mastery of new material. Periodic reassessments confirm mastery and ensure adequate ongoing review; students can also review spontaneously. Real-time reporting of progress is visible to students.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Master operations with signed numbers, exponents, and polynomials, including factoring, finding real and complex zeros, and solving polynomial equations.
  • Solve and apply linear equations, inequalities, and systems of linear equations.
  • Perform operations on rational and radical expressions and solve related equations.
  • Graph and analyze functions, including quadratic, polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions and inequalities.
  • Utilize the quadratic formula to solve quadratic equations and graph quadratic functions and inequalities.
  • Apply unit circle and right-angle trigonometry, graph trigonometric functions, and perform operations on trigonometric functions and their inverses.
  • Prove trigonometric identities, and solve trigonometric equations and triangles.
  • Understand and graph conic sections.
