The course objective is to survey English literature from the Middle Ages through the Eighteenth Century; acquaint students with this literature through a process of reading, analyzing, interpreting, writing, and thinking critically about essays, stories, poetry, and plays from a broad spectrum of English literature; provide a glimpse into the changing dynamics of the latter 1400s to the early 1800s; consider English literature in a historical, social, and ideological context as those influences greatly impacted and shaped the writers and perceptions of the time period.
